My name is Bowen Close and I'm a freelance designer, writer, and strategic communications specialist.
I have over ten years of experience in writing, editing, web design, strategic communications planning, graphic design and materials production, and development of original recipes and culinary content. I love working with businesses and organizations to create effective, attractive materials that help them thrive. I specialize in sustainability, environmental justice, urban planning, agriculture, sustainable food systems, and food and beverage work, but my skills are versatile and I love diving into a new subject!
I have an undergraduate degree in Environmental Analysis - Policy from Pomona College and a Masters in Planning degree from the University of Southern California, and I completed professional culinary and baking programs at the New School of Cooking. From 2012-2017 I taught hands-on cooking classes with my business Bowen Appétit, and from 2007-2017 I wrote about food and cooking on my blog of the same name.
I currently live in beautiful West Seattle, Washington, with my husband and toddler son, but I have lived in Southern California, Oregon, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. I love to travel and have spent extensive time in Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, Southeast Asia, and Central and Eastern Europe.
